Two Rabbits
One of most wonderful experiences is to be completely surprised. And that is what happened to me when I first watched the movie “2 Coelhos”. The name of the movie, for itself, was quite clever. Came from the expression “matar 2 coelhos com uma cajadada” which loosely translates into “killing 2 rabbits with a single shot”.
I must admit: even being a proud Brazilian, I was never to found of Brazilian movies. They always seemed to lack something in the plot, in the development of th story, in the acting, in the editing or, quite often, in the main idea behind the whole movie. 2 Coelhos was quite different. It is not the most original movie, it does not try to be, nor it try to be artistic nor a celebration of some sorts. I is just a good mix of a drama, a love story, strategy and action all built on top of imperfect people. Every single character has it's flaws and strengths. The idea, the theme of the movie deserves attention too. As the title says, it is a plot to bring down a corrupt politician and a unstoppable mobster who are personifications of what the writer, director, producer and editor Afonso Poyart obviously sees as the two great problems in the country: corruption and greed.
The storytelling deserves attention too. The way the story is narrated is as important as the story itself. Being the protagonist a avid gamer, the movie has the feel of, and some simulated scenes, of a computer game. Animation is used quite often to enhance key points of the plot, especially when presenting characters and their agendas. I recommend the movie to anyone who wants to watch a well thought action movie with quite a few good twists and even surprises. The sketch above is of one of the main characters, Julia, played by the gorgeous and talented Alessandra Negrini.
